PLATELET RICH PLASMA THERAPY

PRP THERAPY

Unlock Your Body’s Own Healing Power Right Here in Westerville, Ohio

PRP injections are a natural alternative to commercially manufactured steroids and prescribed medications. In this procedure, we mobilize your own body’s ability to promote healing and regeneration of injured or painful areas. The procedure is performed in our office and takes at most 30-45 minutes from start to finish, with minimal discomfort.

PRP contains concentrated platelets, cytokines, and growth factors that aid in the healing and recovery of problematic joints or soft tissue. Platelets are the components in blood that cause your blood to clot after an injury. PRP injections are often performed in a series for maximum efficacy.

How does PRP Therapy Work?

Our advanced Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy involves extracting a blood sample to create a concentrated solution rich in platelets using a centrifuge. The solution is then skillfully injected into targeted areas, such as injured knees or tendons.

Activated platelets release growth factors, amplifying your body’s natural healing. This initiates tissue repair, reduces pain, and eases inflammation for a comprehensive restoration.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?

PRP is derived from your own blood, focusing on a concentration of platelets crucial for blood clotting. Injected into targeted areas of injury or disease, PRP accelerates the healing process for damaged tendons, ligaments, muscles, bones, and joints. A notable advantage of PRP is its potential to reduce the reliance on opioids and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications. Embrace a holistic approach to healing, where the optimized inflammatory response sets the stage for a faster and more effective recovery journey. Choose PRP at Impact Health & Wellness for a natural path to healing and well-being.

The Science Behind PRP

Platelets, the heroes of our blood, play a pivotal role in healing. In response to injury, they clot and initiate tissue repair through over 30 growth factors. PDGF stimulates vessel growth, FGF aids wound healing, IGF-1 influences metabolism, EGF spurs cell growth, and VEGF supports muscle regeneration. These natural factors, present in PRP, rejuvenate tissues, making it a powerful tool in healing at Impact Health & Wellness.

The Benefits of PRP Therapy

Platelet Rich Plasma therapy offers a multitude of benefits:

  • Sports Injury Support: RP therapy is a game-changer for athletes recovering from trauma and sports-related injuries.
  • Relief for Knee Osteoarthritis: Severe knee pain from osteoarthritis finds solace in PRP therapy.
  • Speedy Healing and Inflammation Reduction: PRP therapy offers an advanced, fast, and effective healing process while reducing inflammation and swelling.
  • Simple and Minimally Invasive: This minimally invasive procedure, involving substance injection, can even lessen the need for surgery.
  • Lasting Relief for Low Back Pain: Chronic back pain, notorious for its difficulty in treatment, finds an ally in PRP therapy.

Is PRP Therapy Right for You?

PRP therapy is advised for patients with pain during acute or chronic conditions such as: Osteoarthritis in any joint or Tendinopathy (tendonitis, torn tissue) in any ligament or tendon. Acute injuries can also be treated successfully with PRP. Injuries commonly treated with PRP therapy include rotator cuff, quadriceps, hamstrings, Achilles’ tendon injuries, knee ligamentous injuries and tennis elbow.

Essentially any tendon or ligament injury except complete tears may be treated successfully with PRP. PRP therapy is exactly the treatment needed to reduce the downtime of the athlete or individual while also reducing the chance of re-injury or perhaps, the risk of a more serious injury that will result in surgical intervention or permanent disability.

Frequently Asked Questions about PRP

At Impact Health & Wellness, PRP injections are meticulously crafted to harness your body’s healing potential. Here’s a step-by-step guide to our PRP preparation process:

  1. Blood Collection: We begin by drawing one to a few tubes of your blood.

  2. Centrifugal Separation: The drawn blood undergoes centrifugal spinning, effectively separating its components—red and white blood cells, plasma, and platelets.

  3. Platelet Concentration: Platelets are then carefully collected and concentrated to 2 to 8 times their normal number.

  4. Plasma Fusion: These concentrated platelets are seamlessly blended into a blood plasma liquid base.

  5. Precision Injection: The PRP mixture is skillfully injected directly into the targeted area of injury.

  6. Optional Ultrasound Guidance: For added precision, we may employ ultrasound imaging to guide the injection, ensuring optimal placement and effectiveness.

Strong energy pulses are applied to the affected area. These pulses occur for short periods of time, creating micro-cavitation bubbles that expand and burst. The force created by these bubbles penetrates tissue and stimulates cells in the body that are responsible for bone and connective tissue healing.

The activation of the concentrated platelets in platelet-rich plasma releases growth factors that stimulate and increase the number of reparative cells your body produces. This significantly enhances the body’s natural healing process.

PRPs injections are used primarily for soft tissue injuries, such as minor rotator cuff and Achilles tendon tears. Its use in other soft-tissue injuries is becoming more common. It has been demonstrated to improve function and reduce pain in people who have tendonitis or chronic tendinosis conditions such as tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow.

Side effects of PRP injections are very limited because the injections are created from your own blood, and your body should not reject them or react in any negative way. As with any injection, there is a remote risk of infection. Otherwise, there are no significant risks apart from the variability and unpredictability of how effective the treatment will be for a particular patient.

This is ultimately decided on a case-by-case basis. The provider may use an MRI or Ultrasound results to determine the number of injections. Typically, you will get between 1-3 injections, however some severe cases may require up to five injections.

Kim, our financial counselor, will work with you to determine if your insurance will cover the cost of PRP, or if you will need to pay out of pocket for the therapy. Due to the nature of this therapy, other forms of therapies may be included to help combine and compliment the healing nature of the platelets. Please talk with Kim for more detailed information.
