Chiropractic Care

Dr. Southworth is specially trained to diagnose and treat a variety of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. His prescribed treatment plans combine the most cutting-edge techniques in chiropractic care, rehabilitation, and massage therapy, so you get out of pain fast and learn the tools to continue a pain-free and healthy life.

Chiropractic adjustments are sometimes referred to as chiropractic manipulation, spinal manipulation, or manual manipulation. Adjustment refers to manipulation or pressure given to the vertebrae that fail to function normally, or vertebrae that are off and/or impinged. The intention of a chiropractic adjustment is to reduce the misalignment with the objective of reducing nerve irritation, improving range of motion and function.

Chiropractic care works by first relieving the tension or inflammation to the delicate nerves of the spine. After chiropractic adjustments are made, and pressure is removed from the spinal nerves, relief is almost instantaneous. And chiropractic care isn’t just for your spine!  Just about every part of your body can be treated with the variety of treatment options available in our office.

Dr. Southworth utilizes many different techniques of manipulation or adjustments including a manual high velocity and low amplitude (HVLA), activator method, or manual low velocity and low amplitude (HVLA). The method of adjustment is based upon Dr. Southworth’s preference, the patient’s comfort and preference, and the response of previous experience, treatment, and adjustments. He will work with you to find the most effective way to treat your current condition.

What to Expect During Your Chiropractic Adjustment

During an adjustment, you might hear a popping sound. That sound is simply a release of gas that relieves joint pressure. You might experience slight discomfort after an adjustment if you tense up during the adjustment. Circumstances like this might require application of ice and electrical stimulation with massage before your next adjustment.

Diagnostics

Impact Health & Wellness realizes the importance of an accurate assessment and diagnosis of your pain and injuries. This frequently means that we utilize imaging techniques and other diagnostic tests, such as x-rays and blood tests. We utilize in-house, digital x-rays to optimize patient care. Digital x-rays are a great improvement over traditional x-rays because they quickly render an image, and provide several additional benefits including high accuracy, easy to transfer, high quality images, and the ability to visualize skeletal issues and misalignments. Our doctors will determine the necessity for diagnostic testing at your first visit.
